Chalkboard Technique

The chalkboard technique is all the rage in the paper crafting world! Here’s a fun card we created at this month’s Stamp Club.

I cased the idea from SU Demo Becky Roberts (who cased the idea from another Demonstrator, Angie, on Pinterest!) That’s one of the best things about stamping–there’s inspiration everywhere!!!!

So here’s what you need to create one of these oh-so-cute chalkboard cards:

Basic Black square (3-1/4″x 3-1/4″)
Soft Suede strips (3-3/8″ x 1/2″)
Soft Suede for card base (4-1/4″ x 11″)

Using you Simply Scored Tool, score the soft suede card base at the following measurements:

5-1/2″ to create the fold in the middle of the card
1/2″ in from each of the long sides (for the legs)
1-1/2″ up from the bottom (you will cut this piece out–see picture below)

Stamp your cardstock with the Wood Grain background stamp in Soft Suede Ink (tip–fold the cardstock in half and stamp the top first, then turn it over and stamp the back)

trim inside the bottom score lines to create the legs

Stamp your greeting in Versamark ink and emboss with the heat tool and White Embossing powder. I rubbed my embossing buddy on the cardstock to create the “eraser” marks, but you could also use a sponge with white ink to get the same effect.

Attach the blackboard to your easel with snail adhesive, and add on the “ledge” below the black cardstock. You could add the second piece on top to frame the blackboard.

Use mini glue dots to secure your bakers twine, and add your banner/flags with dimensionals. I started with the middle, and worked my way out toward the ends. Finish off with a bow (attached with mini glue dots)

This would be great for teachers, principals, classroom aids, etc. And you could coordinate the banner to match your school colors, or any holiday theme! Too stinkin cute!!!
